JAMMU, Apr 23: A 26-old year girl was charred to death in a kitchen fire in Akhnoor area of city outskirts.
According to a police spokesman, the girl identified as Mamta Devi (18) daughter of Darshan Lal, a resident of Badyal Kalian in Akhnoor tehsil, burnt about 100% in a mysterious fire that broke out last night in the kitchen of her house while she was cooking food on kerosene stove.
He said the badly burnt girl was immediately rushed to Sub District Hospital (SDH), Akhnoor, from where in view of her serious condition she was referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu but the victim succumbed on way to GMCH.
“Later, her body was shifted to SDH Akhnoor, where after conducting post mortem today, her body was handed over to her legal heirs for last rites”, the spokesman said, adding a case in this connection was registered at police station Akhnoor and investigations were underway.
