GGM Science College, GCW Gandhi Nagar lift overall trophies in Archery; MBS College, GDC RS Pura enter next round in Cricket

JAMMU, Oct 21: Inter-Collegiate Championships in the disciplines of Greeco Roman Style Wrestling, Archery and Cricket, being organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu were played, here today.
The Inter-Collegiate Greeco Roman Style Wrestling Championship for men was conducted today at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu, wherein 7 colleges of the Jammu Province participated.
In 69 kg, Pawanveer Singh of GDC Paloura, Bupinder Kumar of GDC Kathua and Kaka Ram of GDC Akhnoor clinched gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, whereas in 66 kg, Rahul Kumar of GDC Jindrah and Vishal Sharma of GDC Akhnoor bagged gold and silver medals respectively, while the silver medal was shared by Rahil Sharma of GDC Kathua and Akshay Choudhary of GDC Paloura.
In 71 kg, Mohammad Aftab of Government MAM College and Gautam Sharma of GDC Akhnoor secured gold and silver medals respectively, while Harvinder Singh of GDC Kathua and Mayanik Abrol of PG Department shared bronze medal.
In 75 kg, Deepak Thappa of GDC Paloura and Jaqar Hussain of PG Department clinched gold and silver medals respectively, while the bronze medal was shared by Salman Sohail of GGM Science College and Abinaydeep Sharma of GDC Kathua.
In 80 kg, Anuj Singh of GDC Kathua and Sanjeev Sharma of PG Department bagged gold and silver medals respectively, while the bronze medal was shared by Karan Kashap of GGM Science College and Rahul Sharma of GDC Kathua.
In 85 kg, Udhay Sharma of GDC Akhnoor and Sourav Bandral of GDC Kathua bagged gold and silver medals respectively, while the bronze medal was shared by Nitu Singh of GGM Science College and Ruhullah Malik of Government MAM College.
In 98 kg, Mohammad Asif of PG Department, Jyotier Aditya Singh of GDC Kathua and Irfan Hussain of GGM Science College bagged gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
The matches were officiated by Bansi Lal, Mulkh Raj and Jai Bharat.
In Inter Collegiate Archery Championship, GGM Science College lifted overall trophy in men section and GCW Gandhi Nagar in women section.
Johar Ali of MAM College, Ashraf Ali of GGM Science College and Tundup of GGM Science College bagged gold, silver and bronze medals in boys, section, whereas in women section, Deepa Devi of GDC Paloura, Mamta Thakur of GCW Gandhi Nagar and Skalzang Dolma of GCW Gandhi Nagar bagged gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu awarded trophies to the winners of both men and women section.
The matches were officiated by Sunil Sharma and Romesh Magotra.
Meanwhile, in Inter-Collegiate Cricket Championship for men, MBS College and GDC RS Pura outplayed rivals in their respective matches and sailed into the next round.
In the first match, MBS College registered win over GDC Hiranagar by a huge margin of 48 runs. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, MBS College set a target of 151 runs by losing 7 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Gourav Singh made splendid half century, while Jatinderpal made 29 runs and Pranav scored 27 runs. Akash and Vartual made 12 runs each.
For GDC Hiranagar side, Karan and Amit scalped 2 wickets each, while Rajesh and Ram Parsad took one wicket apiece.
In reply, GDC Hiranagar bundled out at paltry 53 runs by losing all the wickets in 10.3 overs. Gourav made 16 runs, while Karan and Sachin scored 8 wickets each.
For MBS College side, Vartual was the pick of the bowler, who scalped 4 wickets, while Varun Vir took 2 wickets and Nikhil clinched one wicket.
In the second match, GDC RS Pura crushed GDC Bishnah by 5 runs in a keenly contested game. Batting first, GDC RS Pura scored 145 runs by losing 4 wickets in stipulated 20 overs. Prince was the highest scorer with 43 runs, while Gurjeet made 34 runs, Snehal scored 30 runs and Amandeep chipped in 16 runs.
For GDC Bishnah, Harmeet, Dimple and Shabir scalped one wicket each.
In the second inning, GDC Bishnah failed to chase the target and collapsed at 140 runs by losing 8 wickets in allotted 20 overs. Anil played a magnificent inning of 61 runs, while Bitual made 38 runs and Shabaz scored 7 runs.
For GDC RS Pura side, Snehal and Amandeep scalped 2 wickets each, while Harveer and Gurjeet clinched one wicket apiece.
The matches were officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Sadiq Hussain Malik, Raj Kumar Bakshi and Raman Kumar as umpires, while Vinod maintained the scorecard.
The Championships were being conducted under the supervision of Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
