SRINAGAR, Mar 9: The postgraduate orthodontic students of Government Dental College (GDC), Srinagar today held protest at the campus here against the Head of the Orthodontics Department who has been accused of harassing students and forcing them to do his personal works.
Scores of students gathered in the premises of the College at Shereen Bagh area of Srinagar and raised slogans against the HoD, Orthodontics Department, demanding his immediate removal.
“Our HoD often assaults us physically as well as mentally. He slaps us in front of the patients, beats us with sticks and uses foul language. He also forces students to work at his private clinic,” a second year Orthodontics student said.
The protesters said they approached higher authorities including Principal, Health Minister, Education Minister and University of Kashmir in this regard but nothing has been done so far.
The protesting students demanded that the HoD should be removed and Students Union should be formed in the College so that they will be able to highlight their problems through the Union.
The students threatened indefinite strike if their demands are not met. “We will continue the strike till the long pending issues regarding the welfare of students are not addressed,” they said.
