GCET observes Engineers Day as black day

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 15: Government College of Engineering and Technology (GCET) Jammu, Campus Chak Bhalwal observed Engineers Day as black day today in protest against the non implementation of 6th Pay Commission as per AICTE norms.
The faculty members expressed their concern over deferring of the decision in this regard by the Cabinet in its meeting on August 30.
The GCET faculty members in a handout issued to press said that the other academic colleges of the State are enjoying the benefits of 6th Pay Commission but GCET faculty is being denied the same on some frivolous grounds that the GCET faculty does not possess requisite qualification, which sounds very strange as all the faculty stands selected by State Public Service Commission (SPSC) which is an autonomous body. Moreover after every two years the AICTE duly gives recognition to this institution after the verification of educational qualifications of the faculty.
The faculty members said that if the Government has no faith on the fairly selected faculty, then it is high time to shut down the institute so that the career of hundreds of students is saved.
