JAMMU, Mar 3: Speaker Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta and Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control Sham Lal Choudhary today inaugurated tube well at Bandurakh constructed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA).
The tube well having a discharge capacity of 40,000 gallons per hour will supply clean drinking water to more than 26,900 citizens living in Bandurakh, Kunjwani, Ekta Vihar, Deep Colony and other adjoining areas.
Addressing the gathering, the Speaker said efforts are underway to make Gandhi Nagar, a model constituency. Multi-crore development projects have been initiated in the area to achieve this objective as early as possible, he added.
He further said the Government’s priority is to provide all basic amenities including water supply, power supply, road connectivity, sanitation and others at the doorstep of the people.
Sham Choudhary said the objective of the department is to provide clean drinking water to the people of the State, for which the Government has adopted holistic approach through conjunctive use of surface, ground and rain water harvesting.
He further said the department has taken up the de-silting work on canals in various areas of the State so that farmers get adequate supply of water for irrigation purposes. He also asked the general public to help the Government in conserving water and keeping the canals clean.
On the occasion, the officers of the department informed that besides ensuring water supply to these areas, water from the tube well will also be pumped to over head tank at Ambica Colony.
It was further informed that ERA would interconnect two over head tanks at Bandurakh and Gangyal which would improve water supply of Lower Gangyal area.
The officers of PHE, I&FC Department and ERA were present on the occasion.
