Gandhi Jayanti celebrated with great fervor

JAMMU, Oct 3: Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated with great fervor by educational institutions and other organizations by way of organizing cleanliness drives, campaign under ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’, quiz competitions on ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and staging nukkad nataks.
Model Academy, the prestigious school of MIER celebrated “Gandhi Jayanti in a special assembly at the school premises today. The programme started with paying homage to Father of the Nation followed by Bhajan recital and speeches. In order to make day more memorable department of Social Science presented enactments from the history like Jhallianwala Bagh episode, Swadeshi Movement and Racial Discrimination. Karuna Bajaj, noted social activist and president, Gandhi Samarak Nidhi, was the chief guest on the occasion.
A quiz competition under ‘Swachh Bharat Mission’ was organized in the premises of Government PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti. Five teams from GGM Science College, Women College Gandhi Nagar, Government College of education, Jammu, MAM College and SPMR Commerce College participated in the competition out of which team of SPMR College bagged 1st prize.
An awareness rally was conducted by the students and NCC Cadets of Government Degree College (GDC) Samba on Swachha Bharat Day under the slogan “Swachhta Hi Sewa”. The awareness rally started from College premises to the Samba Chowk and the cadets raised various slogans regarding the cleanliness. Cadets also told people about the importance of the cleanliness in their life.
GDC Thanna Mandi in collaboration with NCC and NSS units of the College celebrated International Non-Violence Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation, Mahatama Gandhi. All the students and staff members of the college participated in the pledge for non- violence prepared by Gandhi Research Foundation, Jalgaon.
The Department of Civil Engineering of Yogananda College of Engineering & Technology (YCET) organized a visit to “Bal Niketan (Orphanage) and Old Age Home” for 5th semester Civil Engineering students of YCET, in connection with Gandhi Jayanti. The visit was made as community service to know about the welfare of the inmates of Bal Niketan and Old Age Home, who interacted with the students. During this visit many essential items were donated by faculty and students to the inmates of Bal Niketan and Old Age Home.
On this eve, a prgramme on ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ was organized in Sub-Jail Hiranagar. All categories of Jail inmates and Jail staff participated in the programme, wherein they were made aware about the importance of cleanliness by Incharge Superintendent of Jail, Ibrahim. During the drive, various activities like pruning of trees and grass cutting was organized in the park of the jail.
As a part of implementation of Swach Bharat Mission, Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba launched a series of campaigns on Swachhta Hi Seva from 15th of September which concluded on October 2 with the series of events. A series of events like Sewa Diwas, constructing a low cost toilet for the women and Sarwatra Swachhta at Bus stand Samba were organized. Finally the programs ended with Award Ceremony to boost up the moral of active participants.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated by J&K Khadi and Village Industries Board at Reasi. A large number of people, prominent citizens, children from Trikuta Shiksha Niketan High School with staff and beneficiaries of the KVIB were present on the occasion. District Officer KVIB Qasim Mohammad exhorted upon the participants to follow the teachings and path shown by Gandhi ji for heralding peace and tranquility in the region. Rich tributes were paid to Gandhiji and gifts were also distributed among the children and other participants.
As a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, a cleanliness drive was organized in Tawi Technical Campus. Dr Lakhwinder Pal Singh, Director, Tawi Technical Campus, inaugurated the drive by administering ‘Swacchta Pledge’ in Hindi to all employees and students. Dr Lakhwinder Pal Singh sensitized the students about the cleanliness drive and told them that the motive of organizing this activity is to inspire the students to live in a clean and hygienic surrounding.
Dulhasti Power Station today organized a cultural programme and nukkad natak in the main Market of Kishtwar, to convey the message of ‘Swachhata Hi Sewa’ to the general public of town. The chief guest of the function was Angrez Singh Rana, Deputy Commissioner, Kishtwar. PK Langer, General Manager, Dulhasti Power Station, while addressing the audience, highlighted the significance of ‘Swachhata’ in our day today life.
Under “Swachhata Hi Sewa” campaign, a cleanliness drive was organized at State Bank of india, Administrative Office, Jammu. The drive was jointly organized by Gurdeep Singh, Regional Manager, RBO II, Jammu and Regional Manager, RBO V, Jammu.
Gandhi Jayanti was also celebrated in GGHS Baliyal Rajpura Mandi under the supervision of Headmaster Renu Manhas.
