NAGPUR, Jan 21: The two day National Conference on e-Governance began here today with a formal inauguration by Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways and local Nagpur Lok Sabha MP, Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh.
The conference, aimed at discussing various aspects of e- Governance ranging from Technology Enabled Services to Cyber Security framework, is being attended by senior officers from the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (ARPG),Govt of India and Secretaries, General Administration Department (GAD) from different States.
Addressing the conference, Nitin Gadkari said, it is a matter of great satisfaction that the Department  of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (ARPG) and the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), Government of India have chosen Nagpur as the venue for holding such an important conference with a huge futuristic relevance. This will certainly go a long way in bringing awareness about the latest methods of e-Governance and digitalization in administration, he said.
Gadkari said, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi , the government is very progressive in outlook and hoped the new methods of governance will be effectively adopted very soon. He stressed the need for visionary approach in carrying forward the campaign for e-Governance. He also emphasised the importance of decisiveness in administration.
Dr Jitendra Singh, in his address said, e-Governance is aimed at achieving the ultimate objective of achieving “maximum governance, minimum government” with citizen-centricity at its core. This can be achieved through ease and transparency in governance for which, during the last one-and-a-half year, the Modi government has introduced wide series of revolutionary measures including online portals and updated websites, he said.
Dr Jitendra Singh disclosed that DoPT and ARPG are pursuing implementation of e-Office in all the Central Ministries and Departments and so far, 24  Ministries in Government of India have initiatied the process of implementation of e-Office. Some of these, for example like Ministry of Panchayati Raj has already achieved 100% e-Office platform, while Ministry of Rural Development has achieved 90% of it, he added.
Dr Jitendra Singh also informed that in its meeting held yesterday, the union Cabinet gave a formal approval to an MoU with the Government of United Kingdom which would offer India an opportunity for exposure to best practices in achieving a higher rating in the e-Governance Index during next two years.
Referring to some of the recent initiatives of the Modi government, DrJitendra Singh expressed satisfaction that as many as 27 State Governemnts and Union Territories have also issued orders to facilitate the self-attestation of documents which was introduced by the DoPT.
Union Secretary ARPG, Devendra Choudhary, Chief Secretary Maharashtra Swadhin Kshatriya and Union Additional Secretary ARPG Usha Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
