Future of India-US ties brighter than present, says Akbar

NEW DELHI, Jan 4: India today exuded confidence that the future of India-US relations was brighter than the immediate present and gave the credit to existing bipartisan support for these ties.

Addressing reporters at the Ministry of External Affairs’ mid-term media briefing here, Minister of State for External Affairs MJ Akbar said, ”This was very evident at the high point of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US, the exchanges between Mr Modi and President-elect Donald Trump as also the high-level engagement with the National Security Adviser.”

The Minister said he was ”very confident” that bilateral defence and strategic partnerships ”will drive our relationship to a mutually beneficial relationship”.

Besides Mr Akbar, also present were MoS Gen (retd) V K Singh, Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swaroop and MEA Secretary S Jaishankar.  (UNI)
