Fuel & power drives WPI inflation to 6.55 pc in Feb

NEW DELHI, Mar 14:  Fuelled by increase in the prices of fuel, power and manufactured products, the inflation based on Wholesale Price Index (WPI) rose to 6.55 per cent in February, 2017 against negative 0.85 per cent in the corresponding month previous fiscal.
The inflation for the previous month this year stood at 5.25 per cent. Build up inflation rate in the financial year so far was recorded at 5.82 per cent compared to a build up rate of negative 1.14 per cent in the corresponding period of the previous year, data released by the Commerce and Industry Ministry said today.
The index for food articles declined by 2.69 per cent in the month under-review against 3.9 per cent a year ago, it added. The prices for fuel & power and manufactured products saw a significant rise of 21.02 per cent against minus 7.06 per cent and 3.66 per cent as compared to minus 0.52 per cent, respectively. The index for potato and onion fell to in negative at 8.84 per cent and 18.85 per cent in February.  The prices for milk and egg, meat & fish jumped to 3.9 per cent and 3.79 per cent, respectively.
