FSAT starved of basic facilities

Pure food is basic fundamental right to all citizens and Government is totally non-serious for ensuring that it be available to the people. This scathing observation by the Division Bench speaks lot about the non-serious attitude of the Government towards the Food Safety Appellate Tribunal (FSAT). Actually it is in the realm of the Department of Health and Medical Education to provide all essential facilities to the Health Tribunal if it is supposed to function properly and effectively. The DB felt unhappy with the Commissioner-Secretary of the Health Department for not providing either the minimum manpower or logistics that would enable the Tribunal to function normally. The Jammu Tribunal has reported that all the staff provided to it so far is one office assistant and one peon. The office assistant, who was supposed to take the dictation and type letters, has absolutely no knowledge of taking dictation or typing. The case with Srinagar Tribunal is nothing different. How then can a Tribunal function if this is the state of affairs? It is more of mockery than an administrative measure. The Department of Health and Medical Education should immediately address this issue and provide the Tribunals with all facilities before the Commissioner-Secretary will be presenting himself before the court on the next date ofhearing.
