Srinagar, Apr 15:  Terming National Conference a story of broken promises People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti today said NC has not been able to fulfill a single promise to the people from ‘Raishumari’ (plebiscite) to ration.
Addressing numerous roadside meetings at Noorabad segment of Anantanag constituency, Mehbooba said NC has a history of taking the people for granted by not fulfilling the promises it had made to them from time to time with the result it has not only lost its credibility but also compromised its identity. On this occasion district president Nazir Ahmad Laway, party leader Ab Majeed Padder, Gulzar Ahamd and others were also present.
She said in 1975 the party shelved the ‘Raishumari’ demand and sold the sacrifices that people had made on their call. She said because of its opportunistic decisions NC has always preferred power and made huge compromises over the larger interests of the State.
Mehbooba said in 1987 NC and Congress coalition rigged the elections which subsequently forced the youth to pick up guns in return. “Had it allowed a political alternative to emerge from the State, the martyrs’ graveyards wouldn’t have been at every step around us,” she added.
“And now the same alliance made the youth to pick up stones,” said Mehbooba.
She said with the emergence and growing popularity of PDP on the political scene of J&K, the National Conference is feeling nervous and rattled because it stands exposed and knows well it would have to answer for its all deceits and frauds.
She said the change in the Government is imminent and the Parliamentary polls will lay a foundation for that and the people understand the reality and should not get misled  by the false propaganda of the ruling regime.
She called upon the people to give PDP a decisive mandate so that it could pursue its unfinished agenda of political resolution and good governance of which it had laid a foundation earlier.
Mehbooba said NC is neither having any agenda nor any performance to its credit and has made anti-PDP tirade as it sole agenda as if that is going  to solve the problems that it has created for people through its mis-governance and corrupt practices.
She said the PDP’s programme has been well taken by the people and its popularity on the ground has been increasing which has been giving the NC uneasy times.
She said most of the ration depots across the Kashmir area are running dry and people have to face huge problems because of the absence of Government from the ground.
“Same is the case with other essential supplies including kerosene oil, LPG, drinking water supplies,” she said, adding the ruling class are nowhere in the scene to provide people any relief.
Mehbooba said the bad condition of roads throughout Kashmir present a sad comment on the working of the NC-led Government. And same is the case of power supplies which has gone worst even though the Government has increased the power tariff five folds over the last five years.
