NEW DELHI, Feb 18: High altitude areas of Himachal Pradesh saw a fresh spell of snowfall today while intermittent rainfall lashed wide parts of Jammu and Kashmir even as minimum temperatures in the north continued to rise.
Delhi saw a warm day with the city recording a maximum temperature of 30.1 degrees Celsius, six notches above the season’s average while the minimum temperature settled at 14.4 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar was recorded at 6.5 degrees Celsius against the normal 1.0 degrees Celsius during this time of the season. The city recorded 1.4 mm of rainfall during the night, a MeT spokesman said.
The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir was the only recorded place in the valley where the night temperature was below the freezing point at minus 0.8 degrees Celsius, still marking an improvement of 0.2 degrees Celsius compared to the previous night, he said.
He said there were no reports of snowfall from any part of the region so far.
Kargil in frontier region of Ladakh was the coldest recorded place in the state with a temperature of -3.0 degrees Celsius against the previous night’s -4.8 degrees Celsius while nearby Leh town recorded a low of -1.3 degrees Celsius.
Mercury rose by few notches across Himachal Pradesh as minimum temperatures stayed five to eight degrees above normal while maximum day temperature rose to 31.0 degrees at Una in Shivalik foothills adjoining Punjab.
High altitude tribal areas saw fresh snowfall and Keylong and Udaipur in Lahaul and and Spiti districts recorded 5 cm and 7 cm of snow while Rohtang Pass and other high altitude areas had 10 cm to 15 cm of snow. (AGENCIES)
