BHADERWAH, June 22: Picturesque Bhaderwah town which has flooded with tourists is witnessing massive jams reportedly due to lack of coordination between police, traffic and civil authorities.
Despite traffic restrictions ordered by the civil administration, scores of vehicles were seen parked on both sides of the road from old hospital to Jamia Masjid and dozens of heavy commercial vehicles entering the main hub from Seri Bazaar, which is leading to frequent traffic jams.
The commuters including tourists and students blamed police and traffic authorities for the chaos in the town during the ongoing festive season.
In absence of regulation, traffic jams were witnessed at Chobia Link Road, Seri Bazar, Takia Chowk, Sadar Bazaar, Jamia Masjid, Jai Road, Ganpat Bazaar and Eidgah Road. The angry commuters accused authorities of failure, saying from past one month, there is no let up in traffic jams.
“Normally it takes just five minutes to reach Seri Bazaar from Jamia Masjid, but today I got stuck up in the jam for half an hour primarily due to wrong parking at Takia Chowk and Sadar Bazaar”, Nasir K Sha, a commuter said, adding that traffic cops are not clearing the jams which not only irks commuters but pedestrians also who are come in large numbers for Eid shopping.
“There seems to be absolute lack of coordination among police and civil administration and unless they come up with a concrete and practical plan to manage the ever increasing traffic, this situation is bound to go from bad to worst”, said Tanveer Ahmed Dev, a senior citizen.
When contacted, SDPO Bhaderwah Birjesh Sharma said that restriction order is being implemented and few trucks which enter the market during night hours sometimes stay there resulting in the jam.
“Some passenger busses also enter Seri Bazaar but they have to move towards Sartingal and Chinta and are not allowed to stay there for more than couple of minutes”, SDPO added.
