JAMMU, Sept 17: The Forum of Civil Society Jammu members had a meeting with Dr Jitendra Singh, the Union Minister of State in PMO and submitted a memorandum highlighting several issues, particularly the losses suffered by Jammu businessmen due to heavy rains and subsequent flash floods.
Expressing serious concern over the devastation caused due to heavy rains and flash floods, the Forum stressed the need for focused rehabilitation as well as very planned and systematic reconstruction of the ravaged infrastructure.
Loss of the economic activity in Srinagar capital city and surroundings together with losses suffered in Jammu province have huge financial implications which are directly related to the suppliers of various commodities from Jammu and other parts of the country, the memorandum explained.
Emphasizing the consideration of this dimension of the losses, especially the losses to the businessmen from Jammu region, the Forum feared that the huge amount of sum due to the Jammu businessmen from their counterparts in Kashmir would not be forthcoming in view of the losses in the Valley.
“We hope that the issues raised above will be taken into account when some special package is considered and announced for the losses suffered by the businessman from Jammu as a necessary part of the package of the relief meant for the State. In addition to the loss suffered by the businessmen we also demand a special package of relief for the rehabilitation of the people who suffered heavy losses of agricultural land, standing crops, houses and other infrastructure in Jammu region,” the memorandum said.
