Former Deputy Speaker dies

JAMMU, Oct 28: Former Deputy Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Moulvi Abdul Rashid passed away early Saturday at Pogal in Banihal area of Jammu region.
He was 90. Three-times MLA from Banihal constituency, Moulvi Rashid was close associate of former Chief Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah.
He was jailed several times during his association with plebiscite front headed by Sheikh Abdullah.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has condoled the demise of former Deputy Speaker. In her condolence message, the Chief Minister recalled the contribution of the late leader in bringing Banihal area on the path of development and growth. Mehbooba Mufti has prayed for eternal solace to the departed soul and sympathized with the bereaved family.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad has  also condoled the demise of Ex-MLA Banihal and Deputy Speaker Moulvi Abdul Rashid. In a condolence message, Azad expressed grief and shock over the demise of  Rashid. Azad described him as a dedicated and sincere leader who devoted his entire life in the service of the people. He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and grant of strength and fortitude to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.
National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah expressed grief and sorrow over the demise of veteran National Conference leader and former Deputy Speaker Moulvi Abdul Rashid. Both leaders paid glowing tributes to the departed leader and extended their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. Both leaders prayed for peace to the departed soul.
