Forest team attacked by land mafia, Guard serious

JAMMU, Apr 7: Land mafia men today attacked Forest team, causing serious injuries to a Forest Guard in Sunjwan area of Bahu Range under Jammu Forest division.
Official sources said that Forest Beat Guard Mohd Sadiq, received an information that some land grabbers, using JCB were leveling Forest land in Compartment No. 3, Doongia in Sunjuwan in the afternoon. He informed Range Officer Bahu, Vinod Sharma and DFO Jammu Arashdeep Singh about the land grabbing attempt of some lands mafia men. They directed the Guard to reach on the spot and stop work telling that they were reaching spot along with force shortly.
The daring guard without any security reached there on the spot along with two other members at Doongian and asked the land -mafia men to stop work. They attacked the Forest officials with a sharp edged weapon on his head and threw him in the nearby water tank with the intension to kill him, which his associates escaped for their life. However, he was saved by the Forest team after it reached there on the spot. The land mafia men escaped before the team arrived there. They informed Bathindi Police Post and SHO Trikuta Nagar, Parvez Sajjad about the matter.
They shifted the seriously injured Forest Guard to Gandhinagar Hospital and then to GMC Hospital, Jammu. His condition was said to be serious.
Range Officer, Bahu and DFO Jammu when contacted said that condition of the Guard was serious. They said as per the statement of injured Guard, notorious land grabber – Salim alias Sonu, son of Mir Ali, resident of Chatta, his associate Moulvi Zakir Hussain and at least half a dozen persons attacked him when he reached there to stop work at around 5.30 pm. Guard said he would have been done to death if the Forest team had not reached there for his rescue.
The officers said that despite complaint to police at Bathindi and SHO Trikuta Nagar, no body from there came to hospital to record statement of the victim and seize the JCB on the spot. They said no body was arrested till late this evening in connection with the attack on Forest officials.
