Forest official suspended for green felling

POONCH, Aug 26: Conservator of  Forests, Jammu West Circle (Rajouri), B. Mohan Daas has placed a Forest Guard of Haveli Range of Poonch Forest Division, under suspension after the inquiry committee established that extensive damage has been caused to the green gold in the area.
Official sources said that after receiving complaints of damage caused to forest and felling of green trees in Harhi-Budha and Arai area of Surankote, CF West Circle Rajouri ordered an inquiry and directed I/C ACF Rajouri, Nadeem Iqbal and Assistant Director Forest protection Force,  Masud Ahmed to  conduct on the spot inspection and submit  report.
The team during inspection found that about a dozen large trees of Fir/ conifer  had been fallen in Arai-Harhi Budha area. The team also suspected connivance of the concerned field staff.
On the basis of report, the Conservator of Forests, West Circle,  Mohan Daas placed Beat Guard, Tariq Ali Shah of Haveli Range under suspension for dereliction of duty. The team also held meeting with the senior members of the village in the area and sought  their help to prevent damage to the green gold.  A village committee was also framed to protect the forest and keep eye on the activities of timber smugglers.
