KATHUA, Feb 2: On getting the specific information regarding illegal import / smuggling of the polythene bags into J & K, a joint party of the Forest staff posted at Lakhanpur Forest Check Post led by the Range Officer -Lakhanpur Pankaj Khajuria and SHO- Lakhanpur led by Kulbir Singh Choudhary laid a Nakka at Lakhanpur near forest check post on the intervening night of 01.02.2017 the operation was overall supervised by the DFO-Kathua Ashwani Kumar.
During the patrolling and regular checking the staff of forest and police apprehended a vehicle bearing two registrations Nos. Viz. JK02-AM-4557 (Front Side) & JK02AP 6059 (Back Side ) at 11;45 PM. This led to suspicion and the vehicle was subjected to the physical check & surprisingly the vehicle was found loaded with the polythene carry bags. It is worthwhile to mention the import of the Ploythene bags in any form is banned in the State (Section 6 of the J & K Non Bio-degradable material (Management, Handling & Disposable) Act , 2007 & Order No. JKSPCB- 33/2012, Dated: 22.11.2012.) It is pertinent to mention that the Minister for Forest Environment & Ecology, Government of J& K Ch. Lal Singh has already passed strict instructions to the forest check posts to lay special Nakkas to check smuggling of polythene carry bags into the J & K.
After on spot joint seizure was made by the Range Officer, Lakhanpur & SHO-Lakhanpur in the presence of the official and independent witness and vehicle was brought to the Lakhanpur Forest Check Post. The Driver of the vehicle Mohammad Shafiq , S/o . Abdul Rashid, R/o. Thanamandi Rajouri was accompanying the vehicle.
This morning the vehicle was fully unloaded and astonishingly approx. 09, 000 Kgs. (09 Tons) of the Polythene carry bags in an concealed and camouflaged manner with the Onion were found from the vehicle. This establishes the malafide intention wherein the culprit tried to smuggle the polythene carry bags into the State in an concealed and camouflaged manner. The Department made all legal formalities to punish the offenders under law.
The SHO Lakhanpur was also asked lodge the FIR under relevant sections so that culprit can be booked to justice and every such attempt be thwarted with iron hand.
