Food processing level

Union Food Processing Ministry intends to double the food processing level in the country from 10 to 20 per cent in next five years. With this target in sight, the Government claims it has recently cleared FDI (foreign direct investment) in multi-brand food retail, fine tuning is done, and now the Government has to advertise this policy.
We understand that the Union Minister of Food Processing recently visited top retailers in the food business to invite and promote India as a destination for business. We understand that all top retailers in the food business in UK including Sainsbury, Tesco, Harrods, Marks & Spencer, who have been contacted have evinced keen interest in doing business in India. The Union Ministry of Food Processing intends to hold an International Festival in India in March 2017 which will give a good boost to the development of this vital industry. Foreign companies in food business fully understand that India offers a big market for business. However, we shall add a word of caution. If these foreign companies are clubbed for collaboration, it has to be ensured that the food flow into Indian markets is of as high a standard as in their respective countries. India should not become the market for the junk.
