This is in reference to “Follow Indore Model” by Dr Raja Muzaffar. If Indore has got 1st rank in 2017 Swachh Survekshen it is quite obvious that the Indore Municipality might have taken some drastic steps for making this city cleanest city in country. Jammu Municipal Corporation must definitely follow Indore so that Jammuites get rid of garbage and solid waste which is seen littered on road sides and other public places. The duty of newly appointed JMC Commissioner Ramesh Kumar who is a young IAS officer should not only be to lift the waste to dump sites , but he must ensure treatment of this waste as well. Waste should be collected and segregated by JMC safai karamcharis and Pollution Control Board must monitor all this as they have a role
These activities are part of Municipal Waste Rules 2016.
JMC and other municipal committees must hire agencies who process waste into wealth like compost , RDF, plastic pellets , recycling of pet bottles etc. The JMC dump site at Bhagwati Nagar should be made a model landfill site after treating the waste and this is very much achievable.
Now roads are being constructed using polythene and plastic material especially in Madhya Pradesh. R&B Department must send team of its engineers to MP to study how plastic and polythene is used in Bitumen.
