First woman CJ of J&K

A pride moment for the State of Jammu and Kashmir was witnessed on August 11, when Justice Geeta Mittal was administered the oath of office as Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, by Governor N N Vohra in the summer capital of the State.
Justice Mittal became the first woman judge in the history to head the State High Court. A galaxy of dignitaries attended the impressive ceremony at the Raj Bhawan which included former Chief Ministers, Advisors to the Governor and serving and retired judges of the Supreme Court and the High Court, senior officers of the administration, Police etc.
Justice Mittal had been previously appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of Delhi High Court in the year 2017. She has been a member of the Governing Council of the National Law University and Indian Law Institute New Delhi since 2013. Justice Mittal has to her credit landmark judicial pronouncements made on very important social, sports, labour, commerce and other related issues including on right to shelter of internally displaced persons and compensation for riot victims and the like.
