JAMMU, Jan 28: Directorate of Youth Services and Sports organized Ladies Cultural Programme as part of Republic Day Celebration 2017 at Government College for Women Auditorium, Gandhi Nagar, here yesterday evening.
Usha Vohra, First Lady of J&K State was the chief guest on the occasion, while Ruby Sharma, Bharti Vaid, Deepa Kotwal, Babila Rakwal, Director School Education Jammu and Sunita Bhagat, Broadcaster RK Jammu were the guests of honour.
Director Youth Services and Sports, Sheikh Fayaz Ahmed presided over the function.
Culourful cultural items were presented by the students of various institutions. The participating schools in cultural programme included DMN HSS Talab Tillo, Jain Sharman Sanskriti Manch, May Fair Higher Secondary School, Environmental Educational Institute, Guru Harkrishan Public School, Jain Taruni Mandal, Govt College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Scientia International School Bantalab and Spring Dales HSS Krishna Nagar. Brij Bala, Physical Education Master also presented a Hindi song.
Earlier, the programme began with the lighting of the traditional lamp by the chief guest and the other dignitaries, which was followed by the welcome address presented by Sheikh Fayaz Ahmed, wherein he apart from welcoming the dignitaries, highlighted the activities and achievements of the Department.
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Vohra lavished praise on the organizers and said that such programmes apart from celebrating National Days, provides opportunity for the women folk to display their skill and talent in a conducive atmosphere.
While advocating for women empowerment, the First Lady of the State said that the time was ripe to provide platform to the women folk to lead from the front, adding that the women have proved their mettle in every field in the modern era.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks followed by the National Anthem.
