JAMMU, Mar 14: Usha Vohra, First Lady attended the cultural and sports programme organized by the Viraj Kala Kendra (VKK), a local NGO, at the Youth Hostel, Khanpur, Nagrota here today.
Lauding the programmes presented on the occasion, Mrs. Vohra appreciated the exuberance and spirit of the women and children who presented a cultural show comprising folk dances and folk songs, and varied sports events. She lauded the efforts of the Viraj Kala Kendra for the socio-economic upliftment of the rural women, educational advancement of the children from slum areas and the promotion of rural arts.
Mrs. Vohra complimented the Kendra for its 25 years of continuing service towards the education of the children belonging to the disadvantaged sections of the society.
Mrs. Vohra gave away prizes to those who presented the cultural programme and the participants who were winners in the races.
Earlier, the First Lady inaugurated the newly constructed Hall at the Viraj Bal Bhawan, which is a school run by the Viraj Kala Kendra for the education of children from the slum areas. Mrs. Vohra also witnessed an exhibition of the various handicraft works prepared by the children of this school and appreciated their creative talents.
Raj Bharti, President of the Viraj Kala Kendra, Prof. Rita Jitendra, Advisor, Anjali Sharma, Director Radio Kashmir Jammu, Madhavi Sharma, Broadcaster DD Kendra Jammu, members of the Viraj Kala Kendra, large number of women of the area and the children of the Viraj Bal Bhawan were present on the occasion.
