JAMMU: A major fire broke out in a trade fair in posh Gandhi Nagar locality of this winter capital today. ”Fire broke out inside the trade fair thus damaging nearly 50 per cent of stalls displayed at the Trade Fair at Gole Market in Gandhi Nagar area here,” a spokesman of Fire and Emergency Services said.
He said that a call was received by their Control Room following which fire tenders were pressed into service. ”The fire has been controlled timely but some of the stalls have completely tuned into ashes,” Superintendent of Police, Shazad Slaria, SP South Jammu here said.
He said that swift action by the police and the fire fighters prevented the fire from spreading to the nearby stalls, adding, ”exact reason behind the fire is being ascertained but as per eye witnesses, the fire broke out from the generator set at the site.” Six fire tenders were on job and they have doused the flames, he added. The SP said that no injury to any person has been reported into the incident. (AGENCIES)
