Farooq, PDP delegation, MLA, Advisor, J&K Bank Chairman call on Governor

SRINAGAR, Aug 16: Dr. Farooq Abdullah, MP, and former Chief Minister, met Governor N.N. Vohra at the Raj Bhavan here today.
Governor had discussions with Dr Abdullah  about the forthcoming elections to Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies. Dr Abdullah welcomed Governor’s decision to conduct these long pending polls and said that his party looked forward to the people in the State participating in very large numbers in both the elections.
He also discussed with Governor certain development projects which were not moving well.
Governor discussed with Dr Abdullah certain ideas for promoting the welfare of youth in the State.
A delegation of  PDP led by Abdul Rehman Veeri, former Minister, also met Governor.
The delegation expressed concerns relating to the legal challenge to the Article 35 A of the Indian Constitution; raised issues relating to the security concerns of their party members arising from threat of attacks on its leaders and workers; up-gradation of schools and creation of new colleges as decided by the outgoing Government; engaging unemployed youth who had been given training in the tourism and floriculture sectors; need for conservation of Dal and Wular Lakes; and allowing ERA to also handle World Bank aided projects.
The delegation thanked Governor on his decision to hold the long overdue elections to the Urban Local Bodies and Panchayats.
Governor urged the PDP delegation to raise awareness about the vital importance of the forthcoming elections to empower people and establish urban and rural self- governing democratic bodies.
The delegation comprised of Dr. Mehboob Beig, Ghulam Nabi Lone, Mohammad Khalil Band, Zahoor Ahmad Mir, Mohd. Yousuf  Bhat, Ashraf Mir, Rafi Ahmad Mir and Nizamudin Bhat.
Altaf Bukhari, Member Legislative Assembly from Amirakadal called on Governor and informed him about several serious developmental issues related to his Constituency which require high priority attention.
Governor urged Bukhari to spread awareness about the importance of the forthcoming elections to Municipalities in September-October and to the phased polls for the Panchayats in October-December so that both these elections witness a high percentage turnout.
Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, Advisor to Governor, had extended discussions with Governor about the date status of various important schemes and programmes relating to the departments under his charge.
He also briefed Governor about certain important administrative issues which call for urgent discussions in the State Administrative Council.
Governor and Ganai reviewed various important issues related to the entire arena of school, college and university education and possible initiatives to be taken for regaining the trust of youth.
Parvez Ahmed, Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Bank also called on Governor and apprised him about the Bank’s overall performance particularly the scale of its lending in Agriculture, Horticulture, Handicrafts, Hospitality & Tourism, Poultry, Sheep & Goat Rearing and other upcoming sectors; lending to the implementation of Govt. of India flagship schemes under the Prime Ministers Mudra Yojana (PMMY); expansion of Bank branches, support to Start Ups to enable entrepreneurs to start their own MSME units and other ventures etc.
Governor stressed the important role which the Bank is expected to play for triggering the rapid growth and development of the State and advised Chairman Parvez Ahmed to progressively strengthen the Bank’s internal controls and system for ensuring high efficiency on all fronts.
