KATHUA, July 7: The irate residents of Dhanna today blocked the Dhana –Basholi road in protest against the failure of Irrigation Department to supply water in the canal irrigating the fields in the area.
The protestors raising slogans against the Department blocked the road for hours together and warned to intensify the agitation in case the water was not released in the canal tributary for irrigating the land. They said due to lack of irrigation facilities the farmers have been put to lot of trouble and crops are on the verge of damage.
Later the SHO Lakhanpur and Tehsildar Kathua, Jai Singh visited the area and pacified the agitating farmers.
The tehsildar immediately called the irrigation engineers and got water released in the tributary. This pacified the agitating farmers who lifted the dharna.
