JAMMU, Aug 5: The body of youth, who was shot dead by the security guards posted at the residence of former Chief Ministers Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar Abdullah, was laid to rest here today amid massive protests demanding registration of FIR and release of CCTV footage to unravel the mystery.
Hundreds of protesters carrying the body of Syeed Murfad Shah (26), son of son of Imzad Hussain Shah, a resident of Gulthatha Mendhar in District Poonch, at present Chinore, blocked the Jammu-Bantalab road near his Chinore residence for several hours today.
They demanded that an FIR be registered against the security personnel and the case should be handed over to the Crime Branch of State Police for a thorough probe. The protesters also called for releasing the CCTV footage of the incident so as to bring the facts to the fore.
“We want justice for the youth who was killed in mysterious circumstances. They are claiming that he crashed his vehicle with the gate before entering the highly guarded residence. Neither the gate nor the vehicle had suffered any damage”, one of the mourners said, adding that pictures of the vehicle released in the morning are totally different from the pictures shown last evening, which also raised a question mark over the death of the youth.
While talking to media persons, mother of the deceased said that former Chief Ministers Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah should also press for detailed probe to unravel the mystery behind the death of her son. “My son was killed as martyr not as intruder”, she said with teary eyes.
Sister of the deceased while talking to press demanded registration of FIR against the killers of her brother and release of CCTV footage of the main gate of Abdullahs residence. “My brother after offering ‘Nimaz’ left for gym as he do everyday. He met his cousin, to whom he (deceased) said that a security person has called him to meet”, she said and asserted that the security person should be identified and questioned.
Later, Assistant District Magistrate (ADM) Jammu Arun Manhas reached the spot and assured the protestors of fast track inquiry into the death of the youth. After getting pacified by the assurance of ADC, ‘Nimaz-e-Jinazah’ (prayer before the burial) was offered and the deceased was laid to rest at a local graveyard incident.
Meanwhile, relatives and youth residing in the native village of the deceased led by Mazdoor Kissan Union leader Majid Khan also held protest and blocked the Mendhar road for around three hours. The protestors demanded registration of FIR against CRPF men and release of CCTV footage.
MLC Vibodh Gupta while interacting with media personnel said that “Syeed Murfad Shah was the son of Rajouri-Poonch and no compromise will be tolerated in the investigation of his encounter”. He demanded an impartial enquiry into the matter and said if it comes out as a fake encounter as alleged by the deceased family, then the culprits must be punished according to the law without any delay.
