Fall in enrolment of kids in classes 1-5 in majority of states

NEW DELHI: The Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) for children in classes I to V across the country has fallen by 2 per cent over the past three years with a majority of states registering a decline, the Government said today.

Only six states – Bihar, Karnataka, Delhi, J&K, Kerala and Meghalaya – showed an improvement in enrolments in primary education.

As per information shared by Minister of State for Human Resource Development Upendra Kushwaha in the Lok Sabha, the states and Union Territories with the sharpest fall were Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh and Haryana.

Sikkim saw this enrolment ratio drop by 21.55 per cent, Nagaland saw a fall of 19.28 per cent, and Manipur saw a decrease by 18.3 per cent. (AGENCIES)
