FAC clears several proposals

JAMMU, Feb 14:  The Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) headed by Chief Secretary, B R Sharma  in its 96th meeting held here, discussed and cleared several proposals of allowing use of forest land for executing developmental projects in various forest divisions of the State.
The FAC reiterated that all works including construction of roads in the forest areas need to be strictly monitored and no deviation by the user agencies allowed.
Chief Secretary asked the Forest Department to proactively ensure that a mechanism is in place to ensure   that conditions of the terms of agreement are not violated by the user agency during the construction process and every requisite mitigation measures to safeguard precious trees and forest landscape is undertaken.
The FAC also reiterated the direction on minimum felling of trees and undertaking compensatory afforestation in lieu of diversion of forest land for non forest use.
