Excise sleuths seize over 14,000 polythene bags

KATHUA, Feb 22: Continuing with their efforts to check the entry of banned items into the State and acting under the guidance of T Angchok, Excise Commissioner, J&K the sleuths of Excise Department at Toll Post Lakhanpur foiled a major bid to smuggle “polythene” when 14,440 kgs polythene was seized from a truck entering the State today.
According to a handout of the Excise and Taxation Department the truck bearing registration Number HR63A-1007 reported at the Toll Post for clearance today.
The documents showed that the vehicle was carrying Cotton Seed Cake loaded through New Moga Amritsar Roadway Shop No 15 Palla Morh Old GTK road Alipur Delhi vide GR Number 1314 dated February 15 and consigned by M/s S Audyog Delhi to M/s Vijay Kumar Suresh Kumar, Jammu.
However on physical checking, it was found loaded with 14440 kgs of polythene. The evaders tried to import banned polythene by importing the same in the garb of Cotton Seed Cake.
The vehicle along with seized Polythene has been handed over to the Pollution Control Board for further action under rules.
The operation was conducted by the Excise & Taxation Officer Vikas Anand, Excise Inspectors Anmolak Singh and Anil Kumar, Sub Inspector Bhagwan Dass and Excise Guard Rajinder Kumar.
