Excise sleuths, police foil 2 major smuggling attempts at Lakahnpur

KATHUA, Aug 22: The Excise Department sleuths along with Police Department at Lakhanpur foiled two major attempts of smuggling 4560 bottles of Chlorpheniramine Maleate & Codeine Phosphate Syrup and 2300 kgs of banned polythene and around 14,000 kg of polythene bags at the Lakhanpur inter-state Toll Plaza in Kathua district in the State during last two days.
The Excise sleuths and police today seized a huge consignment of intoxicating drugs and polythene in a vehicle bearing Registration No. JK05E-3149 ,which was carrying Cinnamon as goods. The vehicle carrying Cinnamon and contraband item (Drugs) along with banned polythene was seized and handed over to the Police Station, Lakhanpur for further investigation under the NDPS Act.
The whole operation was conducted by the joint team consisting of Excise Inspectors, Dheeraj Kumar, Sanjeev Singh Sen, Excise Sub-Inspectors Kanwaljeet Shan, Surinder Singh Bagal and Excise Guards, Nihal Singh and Prince Sharma under the supervision of Excise and Taxation Officer, Abhishake Abrol along with SHO Police Station, Lakhanpur Sushil Sharma under the direct supervision of Ashish Kumar Gupta, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur and Shridhar Patil, SSP Kathua.
The Excise Commissioner, Talat Parvez Rohella has enjoined upon the officers of the Department to work with more zeal and in coordination with other departmental agencies to thwart the bid of smugglers. He also complimented Ashish Kumar Gupta, Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur and his team for the achievements.
In this regard, a case under relevant sections of NDPS Act, stands registered at P/S Lakhanpur and the investigation is going on.
The Excise Department sleuths and police also foiled a bid to smuggle 14000 kgs of polythene bags in the State yesterday.
A truck was intercepted at the Toll Plaza and checking was conducted by the Excise Department sleuths which led to the recovery of approximately 14,000 kg of polythene bags, Deputy Excise Commissioner Ashish Kumar Gupta said.
