KATHUA, Aug 18: A team of Toll Post, Lakhanpur thwarted yet another attempt of smuggling of willow clefts outside the State late last night.
Based on a specific input, the vehicle bearing fake registration No.JK02AJ-1204 reported at Toll Post Lakhanpur and as per the documents produced, the vehicle was reportedly transporting “Basmati rice” consigned by M/s Sunstar Overseas Ltd, near BSF Camp, Convent School, Rangpur Basti, Suchetgarh Road, RS Pura, Jammu to M/s Sunstar Overseas Ltd, 40 Kms Stone, G-7, Karnal Road Bahalgarh vide invoice No 2101 dated 17-08-2017. The actual number of the vehicle was JK02AC-0797, a hand out issued.

Based on the specific input, the vehicle was subjected to physical check and on physical checking, 4590 pieces of willow clefts were recovered from the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle named Vikram Singh S/o Niranjan Singh of Vijaypur along with the seized willow clefts has been handed over to the SHO Police Station, Lakhanpur for further investigation in the matter.
According to Deputy Commissioner Excise Vishesh Paul Mahajan under whose supervision the entire exercise was conducted the Excise team at Toll Post Lakhanpur has been able to thwart yet another major attempt to smuggle willow clefts during the current financial year. He informed that the team comprising of Excise and Taxation Officers, Vikas Anand , Dr.Varinder Gupta , Ajay Bharti, Inspectors Anmolak Singh , Mohd Farooq ,Sub Inspectors, Suraj Parkash, Ravi Kumar, Shift Incharge Surinder Singh Bagal and Excise guards Charan Dass, Mohd Rafi & Javed Ahmad were instrumental in thwarting this major smuggling attempt.
Excise Commissioner Mohammed Javed Khan has enjoined upon the staff of the Toll Post Lakhanpur to further intensify their special drive against all those people who are involved in similar kind of activities.
