Excise sleuths foil bid to smuggle polythene

KATHUA, Sept 27: The sleuths of Excise Department at Lakhanpur today foiled two major bids to smuggle polythene into the State.
According to Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur, Rajesh Sharma a truck bearing registration Number PB06Q-2713 reported at the Mandi Mandikern, minor Toll Post for clearance.
He said the documents of vehicle revealed that it was carrying 400 bags of wheat consigned by M/s N K Trading Company Kiri Gandiyal to M/s Mahadev Rice and Stockist Dayala Chak. However on physical checking of the vehicle, it was found loaded with 8150 kgs (120) bags of Polythene and 17750 kgs of wheat. They devised this method of smuggling banned polythene by importing it with wheat which is a tax free item, he added.
The Vehicle is owned by Balwinder Singh of Gurdaspur Punjab and it was being driven by Ajay Kumar S/o Shiv Dayal of Pathankot of district Gurdaspur.
The DC said besides, the physical checking of a Maruti WagonR bearing registration Number JK08D-9869, owned by Ms Renu Bala wife of Narinder Kumar of Ward No 10 Kathua it was found carrying 80 kgs of polythene. Both the vehicles have been handed over to the Pollution Control Board for further action.
The operation was conducted under the Excise & Taxation officers including Joginder Singh Jasrotia, Vikas Anand, Virinder Singh Billowria, Excise inspectors, Rajeev Gupta, Anil Chandan, Harish Sharma, sub inspectors, Bikramjeet Singh, Amit Sharma, Hankar Singh excise guards Vinay Kumar, Khem Raj, Vijay Singh, Nihal Singh and Devinder Singh.
