Excelsior Correspondent
KATHUA, June 8: The Ex- Servicemen and war widow pensioners of Kathua district led by Ex-Servicemen Welfare Association, chairman, Col (retd) PL Choudhary held a  protest demonstration in front of District Head Post Office here, today against the order issued by Central Government to transfer the pensioners of Kathua to Defence Pension Disbursement Office Pathankot in Punjab for getting the monthly pension and fulfilling of  other documentation. They raised slogans against the Government and criticized the transfer of pensioners from one State to another.
Col. PL Choudhary alleged that nearly 6000 pensioners and war widows ageing to 80 year are getting the pension at Head Post Office, Kathua for years together.  But the transfer order of all pensioners to Pathankot is non acceptable decision and it is an injustice with Ex-Servicemen and war widows who have rendered their best of services for the sake of nation at the risk of their lives. He said now the Government gave a reward to them and they have to go more than 30 km from Kathua to Pathankot to get the pension.
How could a 80 year old man or woman go to Pathankot to get pension. The order is a cruel joke with servicemen and war widows those have guarded the nation and scarified their lives in war and militancy.  He warned the Government to withdraw the order otherwise agitation would be launched.
