KATHUA, Jan 31: An ex-serviceman opened fire on a police party led by Tehsildar Circle Kathua who raided the village Bhage Chak to dismantle the construction made by Ex-Serviceman on Government land.
According to police Som Raj an ex-serviceman son of Jalal of Bhage Chak had constructed a house in the village by encroaching the land which has been classified as “Namumkin” land in Revenue records. This land belongs to State. There was a lot of public resentment against the encroachment of the land. Today a police party led by tehsildar Circle Kathua raided the village to demolish the encroachment on the land and they were attacked by the ex-serviceman who fired in air with his private gun and later fled from the area.
However police did not chase him as they thought that in the fit of rage ex-serviceman may harm himself or fire on police party. But a case under Arms Act and attempt to murder under Section 307 has been registered against him in Kathua Police Station.
