Ex-MLAs of Reasi, HP felicitated at VBKP national convention

KATRA, Dec 24: Former Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Reasi, late Rishikesh Sharma and another Ex-MLA from Sundernagar in Himachal Pradesh, late Baldev Chand Bhardwaj, were honoured with Vedic Shree Award (Posthum-ously), at national convention of Vedik Brahman Kalyan Parishand (VBKP)  held at holy township of Katra Mata Vaishnodevi on December 23-24.
The awards were conferred on these two Legislators from the Brahman community for their outstanding contributions by the national president of VBKP, Subhash Kaushik (Haryana)  and SN Acharya (Rajasthan) at the concluding function held here this afternoon in presence of Master of ceremony, Om Acharya also from Falna in Rajasthan. Surinder Sharma, Advocate from Katra and youngest son of late Rishikesh Sharma accepted the honour along with his family members while, Rameshwari Sharma from Shimla, received the award conferred on her late father.
For the over all outstanding performance, VBKP Jammu (J&K), remained at the top with Ist position and was presented memento while Haryana secured second position and  Rajasthan State third place.
It was the third ‘national convention’  of  the VBKP  held at Spiritual Growth Centre of  Mata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board, Katra in district Reasi.  A large number of delegates from various states participating in this annual convention. From J&K more than one hundred delegates from various districts participated.
Many speakers including Subhash Kaushik (national president;  president J&K VBKP Unit  Daya Ram Sharma from Jammu,  National Youth Wing president Dr Mahender Acharya from Jaipur,   Anita Sharma, national president,  women wing (Indore MP),  Moti Ram Sharma from Delhi,  Sushil Bhardwaj and Raj Kumar Sharma from Haryana, Rameshwari Sharma from Shimla (HP) and others expressed their views and also stressed upon the need to bring social reforms in the community. The major issues pertained to upliftment of  Brahman community, improving education of children and youth, eradication of social evils in the society including, ‘Parda Pratha’,  dowry system, awareness on ‘Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao’, unity in the community etc. They stressed upon the need to promote  Vedic culture in the country. They said children and youth should be encouraged to study Vedas. The members resolved to  enhance Vedic education among the youth/ people connected with the traditional rituals of `Sixteen Sanskaras’  from birth to death. He said there was urgent need to create great awareness among the masses on such issues to save our Vedic culture.
