Establish Horti Varsity at Kud-Maada or face agitation: Mankotia

UDHAMPUR, May 12: Raising the voice of hilly people of Udhampur and erstwhile Doda region, former MLA and NPP State president, Balwant Singh Mankotia asked the Government to establish Horticulture University in hilly region of Udhampur-Doda range as there is ample scope of horticulture industry and people of this region need employment.
He warned the Government if Horticulture University would not be established in Udhampur-Doda region, NPP will launch an aggressive agitation for Horticulture University.
Addressing the press conference at party office at Udhampur, former MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia claimed that State Government is going to establish a Horticulture University in State and work on this project is on full swing. There is large scope of Horticulture in the State so there is dire need of establishment of Horticulture University in the State. He expressed apprehension that this project may not become Kashmir centric.
He further claimed that Horticulture University should be established in Kud -Maada area or Chenani-Shudhmahadev-Mantalai area and it will cater the requirement of Dudu-Basantgarh, Pancheri, Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar which will further benefit the local people of these areas in employment sector.
Mankotia claimed that farmers of Reasi, Ramban, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar district are totally depended on rain harvesting and environment of these areas is suitable and benefitted for Horticulture sector.
Kud Maada is the centre of these all areas and suitable place for establishment of Horticulture University, demanded Mankotia.
Mankotia said that party and people of hilly areas have already put forth the demand to establish Horticulture University in Kud Maada area.
He warned the Government that if their demand would not be considered according to the aspirations of local people of hilly region, party would launch aggressive agitation after one week. On this occasion, Dhani Ram Attri, Vijay Kumar Gushu were also present.
