Erratic power supply cause of deep concern for people: Tarigami

Srinagar, Nov 4: With the onset of winter, the erratic power supply position in Kashmir has returned to haunt the people and in most parts of the Valley, including the capital Srinagar, power woes have pushed the people to immense inconvenience, CPI(M) State General Secretary and MLA Kulgam Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami said today.
He said the unscheduled power cuts have become a cause of great concern for the people and especially students who are appearing in annual exams. “It is unfortunate that the same situation is being repeated during every winter soon after the offices move to Jammu and the people of the Valley are left helpless being devoid of basic amenities, especially the power and essential commodities,” he added.
“Not only in non-metered areas, but in metered areas too, the power supply remains erratic. The power schedule announced by the Power Development Department is not adhered to. This has virtually become an annual ritual for the State administration to keep the people of the Valley devoid of basic amenities, especially the power supplies and essential commodities while Durbar functions in the winter capital,” said Tarigami.
“The Government needs to introspect in this matter as early as possible and should come up with a more pragmatic solution in this regard. The PDP-BJP Government must come out immediately with a comprehensive power supply policy to cope with intermittent and unscheduled power cuts during winter. It needs to prepare a policy which ensures reforms in power generation, its transmission and distribution,” he said.
