Enthusiasm marks Losar celebrations across Ladakh

LEH, Dec 12: Losar, the Ladakhi New Year celebration began across Ladakh with Galdan Namchot–an auspicious event organized to celebrate the birth anniversary of the Buddha-Hood of Je-Tsongkhapa, the Tibetan saint-scholar and founder of the Gelukspa School of Tibetan Buddhism in the 14th century.
All the monasteries as well as other religious places and residential buildings were illuminated and were giving a beautiful sight across Ladakh.
“Losar La Tashis Deleks, Losar La Jalskit” greeted each other as people came out of their cozy homes to celebrate the grand Losar today.
Braving the prevailing bone chilling weather condition in the region, the entire region of Ladakh echoed with Losar greetings as enthusiastic people in large number in their best traditional costumes joined each other to celebrate the annul fest with great pomp and shows across Ladakh.
As a customary, Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) members lead by its President Tsewang Thinles, Youth President Rinchen Namgyal, Women Wing President Tsewang Dolma and other executive members, LAHDC CEC Dr Sonam Dawa, EC Agriculture Tsering Wangdus, Upper Leh Councilor Lobzang Nyantak and general public assembled in the Chowkhang Vihara complex and unfurled the Buddhist Prayer Flag “Tarchen” amidst chanting “Kay Kay So So Largyalo”, infusing more energy amongst the gathering.
While keeping high expectation on LAHDC for development and prosperity for Ladakh in coming future, President Tsewang Thinles said that many of the flood affected families are yet to be settled and hoped council will take steps to compensate the affected families. Expressing his serious concern on court decision to remove reservation quota Thinles said that LBA is in consultation with other religious and political leaders to raise the reservation issue in the coming days.
LBA youth wing President Rinchen Namgyal and LBA women wing President Tsewang Dolma in their messages urged the youth to stay away from intoxicative substances and alcohol.
To mark the occasion, LBA Executive and other members performed traditional dance in the LBA courtyard.
