SRINAGAR, Aug 9: Minister of State for Education, Technical Education, Culture, Tourism, Department of Horticulture, Floriculture and Parks, Priya Sethi today said fossil fuel which is not that easily available and creates air pollution must be replaced with bio-fuel or other sources of energy to save our planet. “We should rather encourage use of bio-fuel, solar energy or electricity to run automobiles besides industries to reduce level of pollution in years to come” she added.
Priya Sethi was speaking at a function organized in connection with World Bio-fuel Day organised by Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India in association with National Yuva Corporation Society (NYCS) at Khanmoh, Srinagar today where she was the chief guest. Yudhvir Sethi, senior vice president BJP presided over the function. Priya said world agencies working on alternative fuel have a goal for bio-fuels to meet more than a quarter of world demand for transportation fuels by 2050. This if achieved will reduce our dependency on petroleum and coal.
She said “countries like Brazil have switched over to manufacturing of automobiles that run on bio-fuel and we also need to follow similar pattern to save our planet”.
She said it was because of clarion call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that over 8 million well-heeled people gave up their cooking gas subsidy and helped Government save Rs 4166 crore.
Highlighting the fact that pollution is a serious problem she said that Government is committed to address the issue by decreasing the usage of regular petrol and diesel. She said that lakhs of tonnes of vegetables and fruits perish in Mandis all over the country which could be converted into bio- fuel besides municipal waste could be converted into bio-fuel as well. Bio fuel will improve the economy of the country and also save the import bills on crude oil.
Yudhvir Sethi in his address said that “we need to set examples for others to follow when it comes to saving fuel or switching over to alternative fuel”. Energy conservation is must and it is because of the fact that rich left their subsidies so that poor were able to get cooking gas and save themselves from several hardships. Bio-fuel produced through contemporary biological processes, such as agriculture and anaerobic digestion is going to be the future fuel for cars and even industries and we need to prepare ourselves for this big change.
The Union as well as State Government, he said are working on the projects and we must be prepared to face certain harsh yet favourable decisions in days to come, Yudhvir Sethi said and praised the initiative of students in planting Bio Saplings.
Arif Raja general secretary B.J.P and Muhammad Anwar Khan State coordinator NYCS also planted tree saplings in the slopes of Khanmoh.
