SRINAGAR: An encounter ensued between the militants and security forces on Tuesday evening during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the frontier district of Kupwara, a police spokesman said here.
He said on a tip-off about the presence of militants, security forces and the Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a CASO at a village in Handwara of Kupwara. However, when the area was being sealed, militants hiding there opened fire, he said, adding that security forces also retaliated, ensuing in an encounter.
Additional security forces have been rushed and cordon was further tightened, he said, adding the operation was going on, when the reports last came in. (AGENCIES)
