JAMMU, Apr 25: J&K Govt employees, casual and daily rated workers from various departments and pensioners today held a strong joint protest demonstration at Press Club here today.
A large number of employees and workers under the banner of J&K Govt Employees, Casual Labours, Workers & Pensioners United Platform led by noted trade Unionist Mohd Gafoor Dar Assembled at Press Club and started protest march. They were shouting slogans against the State Government for its anti-worker policies. They were also projecting their demands loudly.
Dar pointed out that more than 61,000 casual, need based and other temporary workers are awaiting their regularisation. The Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu despite assurance on the floor of the J&K Legislature has failed to honour his commitment. The Govt had assured to complete the process by March ending this year but till today that has not been completed. The hapless workers have been made to suffered for the last many years.
The workers have been engaged in various departments as casual labours/ daily rated/ contractual workers. Many of them have completed more than ten years of service but they have not been regularized. They are still in hope of being made permanent employees under SRO 64. A large number of Anganwadi workers also joined the protest rally.
Addressing gathering Gafoor Dar said that a joint platform was constituted to bring all the employees/ workers and pensioners under one umbrella so that issues of workers and pensioners are projected jointly and forcefully. He warned the Govt to intensify the struggle. Besides regualrisation they are demanding payment of pending wages, enhancement of honorarium of Anganwadi workers/ Helpers, reorganization and bring hike in Medical allowance of employees and pensioners. Tanveer Hussain, Akhil Sharma, Nazir Ahmed Molvi, Subhasha Chander, Yashpal, Rajinder Kumar, Rajan Sharma also addressed the rally.
