JAMMU, Jan 11: Creating an embarrassing situation for the Government, two BJP MLAs who are part of the coalition Government, today opposed the package for the stone pelters and said that they will not allow this to be implemented.
Participating in Zero Hour discussions, BJP’s fire brand Ravinder Raina and Rajiv Sharma MLAs from Nowshera and Akhnoor constituencies respectively warned against the implementation of the package and said the decision will prove to be demoralizing for the nationalist people of the State as well as armed forces fighting terrorism in J&K.
The decision was also strongly opposed by MLA, Udhampur, Pawan Gupta who soon after the Question Hour trooped in the Well saying that he was not allowed to speak yesterday on the issue.
Gupta also criticized BJP and accused it of shunning its ideology which it propagated for decades together. Later speaking during Zero Hour, he strongly opposed the grant of Rs five lakh compensation to stone pelters and demanded the same be revoked. Pawan said this indicates that Government has given premium on terrorism.
Rejecting clubbing Amarnath land row martyrs with the stone pelters, he said land row was a nationalist movement and not a secessionist agitation. So these are two different issues.
He, while opposing the proposed talks with separatists  said there is no need for the same as Geelani still says “I am a proud Pakistani” hence talks should not be held with him. He warned that no Government can take any decision which goes against the Constitution.
Reacting to CM’s statement that the stone pelting was pre-planned he said then it is the intelligence failure and where was the intelligence, he asked?
Strongly protesting against the announcement made by the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti in the House two days back, Ravinder Raina of BJP said that those who attacked army convoy, police stations etc do not deserve the compensation as they are law breakers. Such compensation will be rubbing salt on the wounds of the families of martyrs, he added.
Raina said besides giving compensation to such people the nationalist forces will be demoralized while it will be a morale boosting for anti nationals. He wanted to know that how can Government provide job to stone pelters by depriving the qualified youth. He demanded incentives to those in Kashmir who worked for national cause during the unrest.
The BJP MLA from Akhnoor Rajeev Sharma also opposed the compensation to stone pelters those who were killed and injured during the last year’s unrest in Kashmir valley.
Sharma raised serious concern over the statement of Chief Minster, Mehbooba Mufti during Zero Hour in the House for announcing Rs five lakh as compensation per head to all those who were killed during Kashmir unrest last year. This act will demoralize the nationalist people and the security forces who are fighting against the Pakistan sponsored terrorism, he added.
He said all those who are waging a war against the nation must be punished and if Government implements the decision to compensate them, he will oppose this anti national move and asked the Chief Minister to withdraw the decision immediately.
