EJAC opposes raising retirement age of college teachers

JAMMU, Jan 31: J&K Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) has strongly opposed the proposal of the Government to raise the retirement age of the College teaching staff (lecturers/ professors) from existing 60 to 62 years.
In a meeting of the EJAC-R, held here today under the chairmanship of state president, Babu Hussain Malik, the members expressed serious concern over the proposal of the Government to increase retirement age of the College teaching fraternity to 62 years. They said on one hand hundreds of highly qualified contractual lecturers are fighting for their regularization, thousands of NET/SLET qualified youth are waiting for the Government jobs, surprisingly the Govt has been talking about increasing retirement age of those already in job, thus denying the opportunity to thousands of highly qualified and deserving unemployed youth of the State.
The EJAC said that this move of the Govt is highly condemnable and will jeopardize the career of thousands of highly educated and deserving youth. The Govt must review its proposal in the larger interests of the thousands of highly educated unemployed youth.
Senior Trade unionists -Seva Ram Rathore, Kulwant Singh Sambyal, Ansuiya Gupta, Rehmat Ullah, Yashpal Sharma, Naresh Kumar N S Slathia and others spoke on the occasion.
