Eid celebrated in Kargil

KARGIL, Aug 19: Eid-ul-Fitr was today celebrated in this Shia dominated border town and Suru valley with religious fervour and gaiety.
However, the Eid will be celebrated in Leh and Drass, the second coldest place in the world after Siberia, tomorrow.
The Imam Khomani Memorial Trust (IKMT) and Islamic High School (IHS), Kargil, announced that the moon was sighted in some areas of the district yesterday therefore the Eid was celebrated today.
Thousands of people in colourful dresses joined the Eid prayers organised by IKMT and IHS at two different places in the town.
The IKMT offered prayers in Public Park while IHS in the school ground, where the Muslim Ulmas highlighted the significance of the Eid, being celebrated at the end of the Holy month of Ramzan.
The Eid prayers passed off peacefully.
