Efforts on to promote famous Basholi paintings

KATHUA, Apr 8: The historical town known as Basholi has rich history of 800 years old which was also known on the name of Vishavsathali famous for Art, culture, painting and weaving of Pashmina shawl.
Situated on the bank of Ranjit Sagar Dam, the Basholi town has more attraction for tourism. A cable stayed bridge connecting to Himachal Pradesh on Ranjit Sagar Dam was mark of attraction for tourists.
The Art of Basholi painting is since from Mugal period and is also known as miniature art which became famous in the world. The Museum of Art London is also decorated with Basholi Painings.
But the people of Basholi wanted to promote the art every where and wanted to maintain its identity for next generation. Putting all effort for the promotion of Basholi Paintings , a group of prominent citizen of Basholi under the banner  of a local NGO known as Vishavsathali working training the young generation with brush and color  to shape up the identity of Basholi paintings.
The youth drawn from school are getting the basic training free of cost from the NGO and shaping up their future with stone color used for painting. The president of Vishavsathali, Jagdish Brumi said that every year 15 to 25 children get trained in the art and some of them are also given the stipend to meet out the expenses . He said that if the Government will support them they can train many more youth for the promotion of Basholi painting in future .He said that they need Government helped them to promote the Basholi Art as it requires stone color. They are so costly and purchased from Rajasthan. If the Government makes arrangement of stone color on economical rates they can train maximum numbers of youth.
The youth are very much impressed with this ancient art and want to promote it. A young girl Pahu Preet Kour taking part in training classes arranged by Vishvsathali said that Government need to introduce the Basholi painting in school syllabus so that maximum number of students may take part in the Basholi art and it can be preserved for next generation and legacy may continue for coming generation as the Basholi art is attractive and impressive. The Government support may shape up the future of Bassholi Painting with stone color.
