Educational institutions celebrate Gandhi Jayanti, several launch cleanliness drive

JAMMU, Oct 1: On the eve of 145th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, rich tributes were paid to the Father of Nation by various education institutions, which held functions today and some of them also launched cleanliness drive.
In connection with the Gandhi Jayanti, two-day workshop on the role of Gandhian Philosophy was organized by NSS Units of GGM Science College, Jammu.  Padmashri S P Varma inaugurated the workshop in presence of Dr N K Resutra, Nodal Principal Jammu Division Colleges. A large number of NSS Volunteers attended the workshop.
Speakers on the occasion stressed that teaching of Mahatma Gandhi have greater relevance in modern world.  Later a cleanliness drive “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” on the call given by the Prime Minister of India, was launched in the college by the students and staff.
GDC, Bishnah organized a function to commemorate the 145th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Prof  Kalpana Kesar, Principal of the college, was  chief guest on the occasion. Students sung Bhajan “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram” followed by symposium on “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in the Present Era” in which six students participated and threw light on Gandhi’s contribution towards bringing peace and non-violence to this world. The programme was followed by “Swachta Abhiyan” in which Principal, staff and students participated in the cleanliness drive by holding broom in their hands.
Sai Shyam Educational Society Ghou-Manhasan, Jammu celebrated Gandhi Jayanti. On the occasion, a seminar was organized on “Gandhian Philosophy, its relevance in Modern India”. At least 15 students expressed their views on the topic. The programme was also marked by singing of patriotic songs, dances and poems by the students. The students of the school also participated in cleanliness drive.
C L Tickoo, Chairman of the institution paid tributes to Father of Nation. Dr Usha Tickoo, Principal of the college spoke on ‘how Wardha Scheme of education was based on Gandhian Philosophy and impressed upon the students to adopt the Philosophy advocated by Gandhi ji, in their day to day lives.
Jammu Sanskriti School celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organizing a special assembly, which began with paying tributes to Mahatama Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri. This was followed by a   song by teachers in the form of an ode to these leaders of our nation.
At  K C International School, Jammu, the programme of Gandhi Jayanti started with  traditional lighting of  lamp by the Principal Dr Ravi Bhushan and the chief guest   Sanjay Dhar.  The school choir along with music teacher Mamta Kalotra then rendered the soul stirring Bhajans which were the favourites of Mahatma Gandhi.
Some important features from the biography of Mahatma Gandhi were told to the students.  The importance of cleanliness and shramdaan was also stressed upon.   The quiz was organized on the life of the father of the Nation in which students participated.
A Signature Campaign for peace,   non-violence, cleanliness and sanitation by Kcites was also started.
Government Degree College Billawar celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organizing a symposium on the topic “Earth has enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed”. , Six students participated in the symposium and expressed their views on the Gandhian views on living in harmony with the nature.
Dr Nater Singh, Principal of the college threw light on relevance of Gandhian philosophy on the protection of the environment while fulfilling the needs of the humanity.
Government Degree college Budhal celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organizing a symposium. 12 students participated in the event while Zahid Farooq bagged first position. Sumnash Kumar and Liaqut Ali were adjudged second and third respectively.
Principal of the college Dr Shakeel Ahmed Raina said Gandhian philosophy shall always remain relevant and advised the students to study autobiography of Mahatma Gandhi.
NSS unit of GDC Mendhar in collaboration with Department of Education celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organizing an Inter Collegiate symposium on the topics “Communal Harmony, Peace and Development, Truth, Non-violence and Amhsa and Relevance of Gandhi’s Teaching in present time”. Prof. Shabbir Hussain Shah, Principle of the College
stressed upon the students to inculcate the message of Gandhi whole heartedly.
The NSS units of the Govt. Degree College Udhampur celebrated Gandhi Jayanti in the College. On this occasion a symposium on “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in the Present Scenario”was organized. The speakers expressed their views and most of them emphasized that non-violence is the only weapon by which all issues of the World can be resolved.
The students of G D Goenka Public School, Jammu put up a scintillating performance to celebrate the birth-anniversary of the Father of the Nation-Mahatama Gandhi under the aegis of ‘Gandhian Peace Foundation, New Delhi’. The staff and students organized a cultural programme to uphold the Gandhian principles.
In connection with Gandhi Jayanti, Presentation Convent School organized a cleanliness drive in the school compound. Students were allotted different areas within the school boundary wherein they participated devotedly and zealously to clean the premises. Teachers also stepped in vigorously in the idea of making the school environment dirt and dust free. . Besides, a special morning assembly was also held where the school community took a pledge to keep the surroundings clean and by example lead others following the tenets of Gandhiji.
Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, Bantalab celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with fervor in the school premises here today. The celebration began with a special assembly to mark the occasion wherein students put up a spectacular show and enthralled the audience with their melodious voice by singing Gandhiji, s favourite prayer, “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, Patit Pavan Sita Ram”.
Sacred Heart College of Education organized a special assembly to pay rich tributes to the Father of the Nation and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, who preached peace, truth and non-violence.
On this occasion, Chairperson of the College highlighted the contributions of great leaders and suggested the students to follow the path of peace, truth and non-violence.
R M Public celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organizing a function. Students took part in dance and Bhajans.  After the function symposium was conducted on Gandhi Jayanti in which inter school competition was held by the students of 6th & 7th classes.
The NSS unit of Government Degree College Ramban celebrated the Gandhi Jayanti with the great zeal and zest in the College campus. On this occasion a symposium on the topic “Gandhian Teachings and Principles” was organized. The function was inaugurated by MLA, Ramban Ashok Kumar who paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and impressed upon the students to follow the Gandhian principles in their real life.
Model Academy celebrates Gandhi Jayanti by organizing a special assembly in which students paid homage to the Father of the Nation. They presented their views on the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi in India’s freedom movement, his political, social and religious ideologies. The students also sang a beautiful rendition of the devotional song ‘ Raghu Pati Raghav Raja Ram’. In his message to the students, Dr. Arun K Gupta, Chairman MIER, said that the youth should imbibe Gandhiji’s principles of truth and non-violence.
Students of Yoganand College of Engineering and Technology (YCET) celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by visiting Bal Niketan, Ved Mandir Jammu where they donated utility items for the inmates. The students also presented a show  and group songs for the inmates. Er Vidhi Singh Jamwal, Chairman  Jamwal Group of Educational Institutions and other  members of the management also accompanied the students.
On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti,  Government Higher Secondary School Dansal launched cleanliness drive as part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.  Principal of the school along with the staff members and students took active part in the drive,. Later a rally was also taken out.
On the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,  KC Public School also launched a cleanliness drive to celebrate the Gandhi Jayanti. On the occasion, the school students signed a collective pledge not to discard trash of any kind on the streets, school or anywhere. They also pledged to educate other people about it and prevent them from indulging in such undesirable practices.
On the occasion, a short cultural programme was also presented by senior and junior wings of the school.
IECS Purkhoo Camp Domana Jammu celebrated the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi by organizing function. On the occasion, students  of the institution presented various Bhajans and patriotic songs while speakers spoke about the life of Gandhi Ji.
The birthday of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri was celebrated by the staff, students and management of Gandhi Memorial Higher Secondary School, R S Pura in the school premises. The function was chaired by Loin Kewal Krishan Sharma chairman Gandhi Memorial Elementary Teacher Training Institute, R S Pura.
Sweets were distributed by Raj Kumari, Secondary Management Committee of the school. Ved Parkash, retired Zonal Education Officer was present on the occasion.
Kids Kudose Public School, Lower Shiv Nagar celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with great zeal and fervour. Children participated in debate competition and patriotic group songs. Pratiba Duggal gave her inaugural speech on the occasion, wherein she threw light on the life of Gandhiji and Lal Bahadur Shastriji.
May Fair School, celebrated the birthday of great leader, Mohan Dass Karam Chand Gandhi in the school premises with zeal and fervour. Vijay Basur, chairman of Janipur and Chand Nagar highlighted the history and role of our great leader who sacrificed his life for the Nation.
On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti Sushila Narendrajit Singh Vidya Mandir High School celebrated Jayanti by the students and teachers wherein a grand symposium was held and discussed the working and sacrifice given by Mahatamaji during his life time.
Silver Bells High School, Paloura celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with great pomp and show in the school premises. The school students spoke on the life of Mahatamaji and his struggle for freedom with other leaders against the British rule.
The staff members advised the student to work hard to achieve their goal.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated by the staff and students of the Surinsar HSS. On the occasion a cleanliness programme was organized around the Surinsar lake. The programme was inaugurated by Sarpanch of the area Subash Singh and Principal of the School G C Atri.
Galaxy Group of Educational institutions launched a cleanliness drive in the college premises under Swach Bharat Abiyan. The management, students and the staff of the college pledged to follow the path sown by father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi and also pledged to fulfill the dreams of Prime Minister of India Narindera Modi. They cleaned the entire periphery and surrounding of the institution including the part of National Highway on the occasion.
