JAMMU, Jan 25: In connection with the 5th National Voters’ Day (NVD), Chief Electoral Officer J&K, Umang Narula was given ‘Best State Award’ for the smooth conduct of Lok Sabha and Assembly Elections and Election Management and Security Management in the State while as District Election Officer Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary was given Best State Award for his performance in the field of electoral inclusion, reforms and best practices for voter awareness and conduct of Parliamentary elections.
The awards were given at New Delhi today.
January 25 is also the foundation day of the Commission, which came into being on this day in 1950. The Commission’s objective through NVD is to increase enrolment of voters, especially of the newly eligible ones, to make universal adult suffrage a complete reality.
The National Voters’ Day is also utilized to spread awareness among voters regarding effective participation in the electoral process.
