Electronic Courts Mission Mode Project conceptualized by the Supreme Court of the country has failed to fully take off in Jammu and Kashmir despite huge expenditure on installation of hardware and Local Area Network. Keeping in mind that this is the age of electronics or the age of speed, the idea was that the High Courts, Session Courts and Districts Courts all would gradually shift to e-courts in due course of time. For this purpose expensive hardware was also purchased. But for technical and administrative reasons the system is not functioning as it should and the entire scheme remains paralyzed.
Actually the Law Department and the BSNL are trying to pass the buck to one another which indicates the apathy of both towards the main objective of the scheme. If there is any sense of responsibility, the two organizations would join heads and resolve any differences that might be there technically or administratively. It is sad that they cannot find a solution and thus are bent upon scuttling a very well thought of plan of the Supreme Court. We hope that they will realize that the orders of the Supreme Court have to be implemented whatever be their objections.
