JAMMU, Jan 31: Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Nirmal Singh today warned Pakistan that it will have to face serious consequences if it will not mend its ways and continue its misadventures against India.
Addressing a function at Jourian held in connection with paying tributes to martyrs of 1953 Praja Parishad Andolan for “Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan and Ek Pradhan” today, the  Deputy CM said that Pakistan should understand that India is enough powerful to deal with it.
He, while pooh-poohing the opposition parties demanding dialogue with Pakistan said the neighbouring country can’t be relied upon in view of the prevailing situation. “Opposition demand holding of talks but with whom we will talk as in past Pakistan always backstabbed us”, he added.
Nirmal Singh said whenever India offered for talks with Pakistan it resorted to firing on borders or despatched armed desperados inside our territory. Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a unilateral effort and visited Pakistan and they replied us in Pathankot so how can the neighbouring country trusted now, he added.
Taking opposition National Conference (NC) and Congress to task he alleged that they are trying to witch hunt  the daily wagers regularisation issue forgetting that it were they who exploited 63000 casual workers for their political ends and vote bank politics in the State for years together by paying them a paltry sum of Rs 500 for months together.
This Government framed a policy for their regularisation so that they too can lead a respectable life in society which perturbed the opposition parties. He said had they been so sincere for these hapless people they should have since converted these casual workers whose number has swelled to one lakh now as permanent employees.
He said the two parties are not doing any constructive opposition based on policy programmes but they just oppose the Government for the sake of opposition.
The Deputy CM said the work done of coalition in last three years in the State has not been done in 70 years. He said it was for the first time that there was no discrimination in distribution of PM’s special package among the Jammu and Kashmir divisions. If Rs 500 crore were sanctioned for Smart City of Jammu same amount was sanctioned for smart city of Srinagar in Kashmir valley, he added.
The Deputy CM said Rs 5000 crore were sanctioned for the four lanning of Jammu-Akhnoor -Poonch Highway and the work of first phase up to Akhnoor is in the tendering process. Besides, the construction on bunkers along LoC and IB has started, he added.
He also paid glowing tributes to martyrs of Praja Parishad Movement and termed it a revolutionary national movement which was started from the soil of Jammu.
Nirmal Singh said that every nation becomes great due to the sacrifices of great men and ours is a proud land where we have rich history of struggles for the better society. He said that our soldiers, members of Para-military forces, policemen and civilians lay down their lives for the cause of the nation, thereby further imbibing the spirit of patriotism among people.
He said the sacrifices of martyrs Wariam Singh, Baldev Singh, Sai Singh, Trilok Singh, Basant Ram, Nanak Chand and Mela Ram will be remembered forever. He also appealed to the masses to pass on the history of these heroes to the future generations to imbibe the spirit of patriotism among them.
He also paid tributes to the CEC, LAHDC, Leh, Dr. Sonam Dawa who passed away in Leh on the other day. Earlier, the Kissan Mela due to be held here was postponed due to the untimely death of Dr. Sonam Dawa.
He was accompanied by Kissan Welfare Advisory Board, Vice Chairman, Daljit Singh Chib,  MLA Rajeev Sharma, MLCs Ch. Vikram Randhawa, MLC S. Charanjeet Singh Khalsa and other local senior BJP leaders. They paid floral tributes to the martyrs
Daljit Singh Chib said that while the country became independent in 1947 but citizens of this State did not enjoy the same freedom like other states. He said that today we feel proud of living in a democratic setup but credit for the same goes to these martyrs.
Vikram Randhawa said that these martyrs laid down their lives for complete integration of the State with the rest of country. He said that the real tributes to them will be fulfilling the dreams of these great patriots.
Charanjeet Singh Khalsa asked all to take pledge to always keep the national spirit high in the region. He prompted all to work whole heartedly for the nation and the society.
